Cancer-Related Charities:

CROSSING THE FINISH LINE

Crossing the Finish Line is a non-profit organization that assists young cancer patients and their caregivers. Inspired by the late Peter R. Bossow, Jr., our mission is to offer young adult cancer patients and their families a hopeful respite from the unyielding physical and emotional demands of treatment during the throes of a courageous battle. Our patients become “Sailors” and they retreat on “excursions” to environments that are relaxing, comfortable, and secure. Eligible Sailors, along with their caregivers, receive a one-week expense-paid excursion to select locations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, North Carolina, Florida, and California. The lasting memories from their excursions help these “Sailors” recognize that it is their priceless lives, not their cancer, that define them. We aim to strengthen the hearts, minds, and souls of these courageous individuals as they battle the psychological, emotional, economic, and spiritual trauma that accompanies a cancer diagnosis. GILDA'S CLUB (North New Jersey Chapter)

The Mission of Gilda’s Club Northern New Jersey is to create welcoming communities of free support for everyone living with cancer – men, women, teens and children – along with their families and friends. Our innovative program is an essential complement to medical care, providing networking and support groups, workshops, education and social activities. Gilda’s Club is named in honor of Gilda Radner, who, when describing the emotional and social support she received when she had cancer, called for such places to be made available for people with cancer and their families and friends everywhere. Although the Saturday Night Live comedian died in 1989, Gilda’s spirit lives on at every Gilda’s Club, where members join with other “experts” at living with cancer to both give and receive the benefits of love and laughter through the unique Gilda’s Club program. Cancer-Zero, Me-One!

The Me-One Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to lightening the load that cancer inflicts on a family. We offer a free weekend vacation for families with a parent with cancer that brings the focus of life, joy and laughter back to the forefront of those who have been hit hard by this disease. Cancer may be diagnosed in only one person, but it radiates out to the whole family. That’s where we come in! Our weekend get away is in the calm rolling hills of western Sonoma County. Hidden between gorgeous oaks and blanketed in wild flowers, this peaceful setting provides the back drop to pampering of the highest honor. Spa services including massage, pedicures, manicures, and facials are just the start of the relaxation. Mix in soothing music, roaring campfires, and make sure you sneak in the taste of a ‘Smore before you go off to star gaze at the night sky. The other nightly activities, such as live music and dancing bring a festive end to a day filled with archery, canoeing, arts and crafts, story telling, dance lessons, karate lessons and more events than we can list. If you or a loved one is interested in experiencing the magic of our Camp Challenge, either as a guest or a volunteer, we would love to meet you! VISIT US HERE AT www.Me-OneFoundation.org
